What types of charging stations are available from ONgineer?

Main types of e-bike charging points

1. Direct-charge stations

  • Charge just like at home, without having to bring your own charger or cable

  • Integrated system connectors (e.g. Bosch, Shimano, Yamaha, Specialized, Brose, BMZ, …)

  • Starts automatically when plugged in

  • Advantage: fast, secure, straightforward

ONgineer example: The LiON Box X covers up to 95 % all standard rechargeable batteries – without the need for any additional accessories.

2. Schuko sockets / charging cabinets

  • Standard 230V sockets

  • The battery must be removed to use a charging cabinet and must fit inside it
(this is often no longer possible with in-tube/frame batteries, as they are too long)
  • Users must bring their own charger and charging cable and keep an eye on them whilst they are charging

  • Often installed at hotels or tourist information centres

  • Advantage: universal; disadvantage: less convenience and a lack of security (the charger and cable can be stolen)

ONgineer solution: All LiON Box X models have a 230V fallback solution for special cases and permanently fitted charging cables.

3. Combined solutions

  • Direct charging + Schuko in a single system

  • Maximum flexibility for operators and users

  • Supports multiple e-bikes at the same time

ONgineer advantage:
Combining the LiON Box X and its predecessor, the LiON Box Max 2 full direct-charge points with Schuko socket and, if desired, even feeding into the grid via  Solar panels.

4. Fast-charging stations

  • Higher charging current (6 A and above)

  • Shorter charging time, but a risk of reduced battery life

  • The DJI Avinox system can, for example, charge at up to 12 A, but can only be used with extremely high-quality e-bikes that are specifically designed for it.

ONgineer’s philosophy:
We rely on 4 A as the ideal compromise between speed and safety.
