LiON Switch
Centralised solar power supply for multiple charging points

System component for multiple LiON Box X and LiON Box S units in self-sufficient solar operation

LiON Switch

Solar power supply for e-bike charging points

Making solar energy available for multiple charging points

From a PV module to a centralised solar power supply for multiple charging points

The LiON Switch connects compatible PV modules to a battery storage system and the LiON Box X or LiON Box S to form a centralised solar power supply.

The solar energy generated is stored in the LiON Switch and supplied as a 230 V power supply to the connected LiON Boxes. This creates up to four direct charging points, even at locations without a suitable mains connection.

Direct connection of suitable PV modules

Centralised supply of 2 × LiON Box X or 4 × LiON Box S

Integrated battery storage for up to 4 direct charging points

Note: PV modules, a shelter, LiON boxes and bicycles are not included in the scope of delivery.

Two system variants

Four direct charging points – grouped together compactly or spread out flexibly

The LiON Switch can power either two LiON Box X units or four LiON Box S units. Both configurations provide a total of four direct charging points and differ mainly in terms of their distribution on site.

LiON Switch with two LiON Box X units and a total of four direct charging points

All in one compact package

LiON Switch with 2 × LiON Box X

4 direct charging points at 2 charging stations

Each LiON Box X provides two direct charging points. This configuration is particularly suitable when several charging points are to be grouped together in a compact arrangement at a central cycle parking area.

  • Two direct charging points per LiON Box X
  • Compact layout in a central area
  • Well suited to short and straightforward cable routes

Flexibly distributed

LiON Switch with 4 × LiON Box S

4 direct charging points at 4 charging stations

Each LiON Box S provides a direct charging point. This allows the individual charging points within the site to be arranged and distributed more flexibly.

  • One direct charging point per LiON Box S
  • Flexible positioning of individual charging points
  • Suitable for larger or spatially divided storage areas

Which configuration is most suitable depends on the desired distribution of charging points, the cable routes and the structural conditions at the site.

Project-specific design

Which configuration is right for your site?

Whether two LiON Box X units or four LiON Box S units are more suitable depends not solely on the desired number of charging points.

Other key factors include the available PV area, the cable routing, the spatial distribution of the cycle parking spaces and the expected charging demand. ONgineer helps you assess these factors and plans the appropriate system configuration for your site.

The following points are particularly important for the initial classification:

  • Desired distribution of charging points
  • available space for PV modules
  • Installation location of the LiON Switch
  • Cable routes to the charging points
  • remote monitoring as required

You describe the site – ONgineer plans the appropriate system configuration.

LiON Switch in practical use

Self-sufficient e-bike charging infrastructure for Michelin

In collaboration with AlKuTec Bovend and Elektro Huber, ONgineer installed a PV-powered e-bike charging station for the Michelin tyre factory in Bad Fallingbostel.

LiON Switch units handle the central storage, control and power supply for the connected charging stations. This has made it possible to install several charging points independently of the public electricity grid.

PV-powered energy supply Solar energy is stored centrally and made available to the charging points.
Off-grid operation The charging infrastructure was installed without being connected to the public electricity grid.
Remote monitoring of the plant Selected operating parameters can be monitored and analysed remotely.

Joint project with:

AlKuTec Bovend GmbH Elektro Huber GmbH ONgineer GmbH

The reference project was implemented using an earlier generation of the LiON Box. Current projects are planned using the LiON Box X or LiON Box S.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the LiON Switch

Answers regarding system configuration, PV integration, installation and off-grid operation.

What is the LiON Switch?

The LiON Switch is a central control, storage and power supply unit for off-grid charging infrastructure. It connects suitable PV modules to the LiON Box X or LiON Box S.

Which charging points can be connected?

The LiON Switch is designed for two LiON Box X units or four LiON Box S units. Both configurations allow for a total of up to four direct charging points.

Does the system require a mains connection?

No. Provided the PV system is correctly designed, the LiON Switch can be operated independently of the mains electricity supply.

Are the PV modules included in the scope of delivery?

No. PV modules, the mounting structure and other site-specific components are designed to suit the specific project.

Can the LiON Switch be installed outdoors?

The LiON Switch features a robust housing with an IP65 and IK09 rating. It should nevertheless be installed indoors or in a sheltered outdoor area.

Who is authorised to install the LiON Switch?

The electrical connection and commissioning must only be carried out by a qualified electrician.

Is remote monitoring possible?

Yes. Remote monitoring of selected plant parameters can be arranged on a project-by-project basis.
